Waverley Primary Academy praised for behaviour and inclusion in glowing Ofsted report

Pupils and staff at Waverley Primary Academy are celebrating after securing high marks under Ofsted's updated inspection regime. Following a visit in September, the academy achieved a strong standard in three of the seven categories assessed: Attendance and behaviour, Early years, and Inclusion. It reached the expected standard across the remaining four categories. Under the inspection framework, single-word judgements have been replaced by a five-point scale ranging from ‘exceptional’ to ‘urgent improvement’, with ‘expected standard’ representing the benchmark for high-performing schools. Inspectors commended the school, which is part of Astrea Academy Trust, for establishing a “calm and orderly environment” supported by consistent routines and very good behaviour. The watchdog noted that attendance is “high and sustained”, with disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) attending very regularly. The academy's commitment to inclusion was highlighted as central to its work, with staff demonstrating a clear understanding of vulnerable children. Inspectors also praised the Early years provision, observing happy and settled children in Nursery and Reception, while noting that a well-structured curriculum helps many pupils attain above the national average. Reading was singled out as a particular strength. Danielle Wilby, Principal of Waverley Primary Academy, said: "We are incredibly proud of this strong Ofsted report which reflects how it recognises the calm, orderly and inclusive environment we work hard to maintain at Waverley. “It was so pleasing that the inspectors saw the warm and positive relationships that we have with our pupils and praised the children for their excellent behaviour. “I would like to thank all the staff who work so hard every day to make Waverley the successful academy it is and our parents and carers for their ongoing support." Rowena Hackwood, CEO of Astrea Academy Trust, said: “It is a great pleasure to read this excellent report from Ofsted and I would like to congratulate Danielle and all the staff and pupils at Waverley Academy. “As a trust, we are committed to making sure that every child receives a brilliant education and it is wonderful to see the strengths of Waverley showcased and praised in this report.”
