South Africa arrests 12 senior police officers on suspicion of corruption

South African prosecutors say anti-graft investigators have arrested 12 senior police officers over alleged corruption and fraud tied to a police services contract. On Wednesday, the officers appeared in court in Pretoria. The case is unfolding during a wider inquiry into claims of high-level corruption inside the police. President Cyril Ramaphosa, who ordered the inquiry, suspended the police minister last year. Parliament is also running a separate inquiry. Prosecutors say the inquiry is examining claims that senior officers have corrupt ties to alleged crime bosses. Some officers have allegedly taken money for favors. Prosecutors say a company director also faces arrest.
