Seniors' self-awareness of cognitive sharpness validated by smartwatch study

A new study finds that seniors' self-rated mental sharpness via smartwatches closely matches their actual brain performance in real-world settings. The research, involving 162 participants averaging age 72, used Apple Watches to prompt users multiple times daily to rate their cognition and mood while also delivering brief cognitive tasks. This method captured real-time correlation between perceived and actual cognitive function, contrasting with traditional clinic-based tests that often show mismatch. The approach could offer lower-burden, more natural cognitive monitoring for older adults.
