PA, New Jersey launch aggressive‐driving enforcement

HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania and New Jersey have launched a multi‐state aggressive‐driving enforcement wave running through April 26, PennDOT announced. Agencies in both states will also conduct a one‐day coordinated enforcement April 14. The effort targets speeding, distracted driving and work‐zone violations. Drivers exhibiting unsafe behaviors such as following too closely or making careless lane changes may be cited. PennDOT invests about $23 million annually in federal grant funds to support high‐visibility enforcement statewide. In 2024, Pennsylvania recorded 5,897 aggressive‐driving crashes, resulting in 106 fatalities and 405 suspected serious injuries. Preliminary 2025 data shows fatalities in aggressive‐driving crashes have increased even as overall traffic deaths have declined. Pennsylvania State Police and roughly 300 municipal departments will focus enforcement on roadways with a high number of aggressive‐driving crashes. New Jersey State Police and local departments will run parallel enforcement through the state’s “Goal Zero” campaign. More information on safe driving is available at pa.gov/dotsafety.
