In his first State of the City address Thursday morning, Mayor Lurie spoke about the shift in a treatment-focused approach to address homelessness and the mental health crisis in San Francisco’s streets.On Friday morning, Lurie did the same alongside California Governor Gavin Newsom at the Friendship House.The governor expressed support towards the city’s goals, announcing more than $420 million of new state funding for San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego communities as part of the state’s homeless funding, assistance and prevention program, or HHAP 6 funding. The funding goes to helping local programs to end homelessness through interim or permanent housing and supportive services.Both leaders emphasized that progress is being made.
