A study of over 10,000 older adults across Europe found that higher levels of loneliness were associated with poorer performance on memory tests at the beginning of the study. However, over a seven-year period, the rate of memory decline was similar regardless of participants' loneliness levels, suggesting loneliness impacts the initial state of memory more than its progressive decline.
