French protest organizers and unions are demanding a big rally on October 31 and a nationwide strike for November 5 to pressure the government over wages, living costs and public services. Security forces deployed 70,000 police on Saturday and arrested 1,314 people while 53 officers were injured. The protests are expanding beyond the initial student movement.
