Egypt and Sudan welcome President Trump's offer to resume U.S. mediation with Ethiopia over the Nile River water dispute. Ethiopia's Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, Africa's largest, aims to double its electricity generation. Egypt views the dam asa “grave violation of international law” and a threat to its water supply. Egypt's President el-Sissi posted on Saturday that he valued Trump's attention, saying he supported U.S. efforts to resolve the issue. Sudan's Gen. Burhan also hailed the initiative. Trump expressed readiness to mediate, following stalled talks in 2020. The dispute focuses on water sharing and dam operations, crucial for Egypt's water needs and Ethiopia's electricity goals.
