Dan Kinney’s decades of heavenly sounds at Stony Brook’s All Soul’s Church

Dan Kinney’s decades of heavenly sounds at Stony Brook’s All Soul’s Church

For the past twenty-eight years, Daniel Kinney has filled All Souls Episcopal Church of Stony Brook with ‘’sounds to heaven’ by playing the historic Erben tracker organ at weekly services, always with an unmatched skill and joy. Dan has always been “instrumental” in performing the songs and hymns at All Souls and has developed a deep friendship and following with a generation of All Soul’s parishioners. Following Dan’s announcement of his retirement, the members of All Souls held a “Dan Kinney Day” on Sunday, March 22nd. Parishioners gathered for an afternoon of conversation and memories about his unmatched service over the past two decades. New York State Assemblywoman Rebecca Kassay presented Dan with a proclamation noting his many contributions not only to All Souls but to the larger community. Apart from his role at All Souls, Dan has been an important part of Stony Brook University by serving as Associate Director of Libraries for Resource Management, University’s Interim Dean of Libraries, Associate Director of Libraries for Collections and Technical Services and Head of the Music Library. He is a past President of the Long Island Library Council Board of Trustees. — SUBMITTED BY HERB MONES
