The children of mothers who received COVID-19 mRNA vaccines during pregnancy have the same social-emotional skills and developmental progress as the children of unvaccinated mothers, according to researchers who followed over 400 children for two and a half years. The team compared the vaccinated and unvaccinated groups using a questionnaire, which evaluates five developmental areas: communication, gross motor function, fine motor function, problem-solving, and personal-social skills. They found the scores were equivalent between 18- to 30-month-old children whose mothers did or did not receive mRNA SARS-CoV-2 vaccination during or immediately prior to pregnancy, and they say their findings support continued recommendations for COVID-19 mRNA vaccination during pregnancy.
